10 Reasons why Hilary Benn should run for leader
1) It would make life interesting in British politics.
2) He’s a non spin politician when we’re moving away from spin.
3) Brown could still do a Portillo and implode.
4) He’s English.
5) Good track record as a minister.
6) A proper election would be in the interests of Labour Party democracy.
7) Comes across on TV as thoroughly decent.
8) Even if he loses Brown would probably still give him a cabinet job.
9) Nobody hates him.
10) Less competition than in the deputy leadership election.

Comments:
11) He goes canvassing in Oldham

I've delivered leaflets in the freezing cold in Oldham so I know that is real commitment.

Well of course nobody hates him - he's in International Development, handing out money to the third world - a popular thing to do and no angry domestic voters to deal with. Even Clare Short was popular when she was in international development!

Not sure how Benn would fare in a tougher job - he's avoided offers from Blair for one of the more contentious roles hasn't he? he's also the same age as Blair and a couple of years younger than Brown and hasn't achieved much really.

Snowflake was that Hilary your taking about or John Major and dispite being a y front wearing plank did manage to be PM for 7 years. Though I think HB would be a better PM by a long way.
