Man beats vegtable in election Brazil's leftwing president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, won power last night in a landslide victory for his second term, a month after being forced into a run-off by allegations of corruption. With most of the votes counted, Lula had 61%, Geraldo Alckmin his opponent from the Social Democratic Party, often went by the nickname chuchu, a tasteless green vegtable.

Lula won by letting ordinary people know that he was on their side and giving them bundles of cash, this made any attempted dirty tricks scandal by his campaign seem trivial.
